Grisham Shows Impressive Support
ALBUQUERQUE - First Congressional District candidate Michelle Lujan Grisham announced today an impressive quarter of fundraising for her campaign.
Despite entering the race only recently and long after her primary opponent, Grisham raised some $115,000 from hundreds of contributors. Equally impressive is she has more than $95,000 cash on hand and more than 90 percent of the money raised is from New Mexicans.
"The success of my first fundraising quarter is proof that my message of change and hope is being heard," said Grisham. "This is a real grassroots campaign and I am honored to have the support of hundreds of my fellow New Mexicans."
Grisham has never run for public office but has a long career in public service. She was selected in 2002 to serve as Secretary of the newly created Aging and Long Term Services Department. She oversaw the reorganization of state government programs for seniors and people with disabilities to work toward a system of services that is seamless, efficient and easily accessible.
In August 2004, Governor Richardson named her as secretary of the New Mexico Department of Health, a 4,000-staff department that oversees or provides behavioral, primary and long-term health services, infectious disease tracking and prevention and state health policy planning.
"With your help and support we will have the necessary money to deliver a message, explain to all voters my vision for a better America and together demand real change. I'm offering change we can trust." she said.
