Lujan Grisham Wins Major Endorsement

Albuquerque - First Congressional District candidate Michelle Lujan Grisham today received the endorsement of the New Mexico Pharmacists Association.

"Pharmacists recognize that my background in healthcare will make a difference in Congress," the Democrat said. "I'm pleased to have the pharmacists' support. They are on the front line of our health care woes. Pharmacists see people struggling to buy their medicine every day. They understand the need to truly reform our health care system," she said.

Grisham entered the congressional race late last year and has enjoyed both financial support and endorsements from Democrats and independents throughout the district.

R. Dale Tinker is the Pharmacists executive director. "Michelle is an obvious choice for anyone who believes our health care system should be reformed immediately. Michelle has spent her adult life working to improve the health care of New Mexicans and I know she will do the same in Congress. Electing Michelle is important as far as we are concerned," he said.

Grisham has never run for public office but has a long career in public service. She was selected in 2002 to serve as Secretary of the newly created Aging and Long Term Services Department. She oversaw the reorganization of state government programs for seniors and people with disabilities toward a system of services that is seamless, efficient and easily accessible.

In August 2004, Governor Richardson named her Secretary of the New Mexico Department of Health, a 4,000-staff department that oversees or provides behavioral, primary and long-term health services, infectious disease tracking and prevention and state health policy planning.
